I started dreaming about being free again

Last week I asked God if He allowed me to specifically meet this brother again after 1.5 year. It really felt like God placed this family on my heart and that I had to meet with this amazing guy again for some reason! He is just one of the many faces who lives out the reality of being a brick kiln worker.

When I asked my host about him, he joyfully shared the news that he and his whole family had just been baptized last week. And he and his wife were expecting a baby any moment. My heart got instantly filled with so much joy over this good news!

Later that day, my host made the call to see what might be possible. The response that came broke my heart. We received the news that his newborn did not make it and had just passed away earlier that same day. As this brother is forced to work, his wife and his mother were rushed to the hospital, both battling against severe illness and complications. That night I wept before God pleading for Him to lift them up and carry them through this tragedy.

God, ”See the misery of His people, hears their crying, because of their slave drivers, and is concerned about their suffering.” (Exodus 3:7) I prayed, deliberate them so they can experience your freedom! This family have been trapped around 13 years in this place. Joseph spent 13 years in slavery and prison before being elevated to his position of authority. So won't He do it!

I STARTED DREAMING AGAIN

A few days later we met with the family. As we walked in, they rushed to borrow some chairs from their neighbors for us, because earlier they had sold everything. Everything except one small, single-person bed, which at most could fit one adult and a few children. The rest of them slept on a brick floor, they had sold it all to cover the costs of the sickness that had overcome them in recent months. We sat down, ate with them, and spent time mourning and listening to each person.

At one point, I asked the young father if he still dared to dream, and what those dreams would be about. He told me that since his time in slavery, he had stopped dreaming. I could see the spark in his eyes begin to fade.
But as I encouraged him to dream again, he slowly shared that for the past 5–6 months, he’d been receiving dreams about his family being free. I told him to start believing that with God, nothing is impossible, and to commit everything back into His mighty hands. I prayed for comfort, an increase of faith, spoke freedom over the family, breaking the spirit of slavery and restoring their identity as children of God.

The spark returned to his eyes, and he was deeply grateful for the time we had spent together. He told me he had started praying again for the first time since his baptism a week

MEETING THE LANDOWNER

Later, we went to meet the landowner. I had no idea what to expect from this uncommon situation. I looked to my hosts and saw that he was clearly stressed and intimidated by the coming confrontation, especially as we were preparing to put forward an offer for the family’s release.
We entered the office, surrounded by five other curious strangers who also sensed this was no ordinary meeting. As we began greeting each other, I got straight to the point. Gently I spoke out my concerns, acknowledging everyone’s needs and losses to than put the offer on the table.
The landowner responded, “I had already seen that this was coming for this family”, I felt such peace.

He started reaching out to the biggest book I’ve ever seen, an account book with hundreds of pages, holding the debts and history of so many lives. It struck me how many lives were trapped in that book. I started praying silently, “God, let us have success today!” He showed me the number, and I asked him to confirm it was final. We came to an agreement and with a smile shook hands on it. He also promised that the family would never be allowed to work there again, never to return to their Egypt.

I praised God for aligning everyone’s hearts and showing a way out for them. As we drove off, I began thinking about the next steps, believing that God has already aligned other hearts with compassion to help break this cycle of slavery in this generation for the family.

If this is you, please pray and ask if this is something God is inviting you into, to help them rebuild their life. After the death of their child, this could be the beginning of a new life, a God-ordained dream, where what the enemy meant for destruction is transformed into hope and blessing, just as it was with Joseph.
My time here in this region is short and almost over and I’d love to move quickly, if you feel like being part of this, I invite you to pray and give!
