"We are praying for the people in Belgium to come to Christ. Also, when hardships may come, we wanna come help you persevere and stand firm because we know how it is to be persecuted" (Javed Ashir)
This conversation challenged me in so many ways and made me feel a bit uncomfortable knowing how much time I take to pray for my country to surrender... not to even mention for a country so faraway as Pakistan...
This young man has the mission to see a Bible in every corner of Pakistan. It's a really complicated mission, knowing you're one false blasphemy accusation away from life imprisonment or even death. He is the young father of a boy:
"Even if I don't see this goal fulfilled in my own life, I hope my son will continue this mission."
There is a treasure he must have found in knowing Christ.
Lahore bombing
On 27 March 2016, on Easter Sunday, at least 75 people were killed and over 340 were injured in a suicide bombing in one of the largest parks in Lahore. The attack targeted Christians who were celebrating that Jesus resurrected from the death.
"That Jesus is alive and to follow Him comes with a totally different cost for them."
Despite these horrific circumstances, there are still many believers who courageously share the good news and Pakistanis who are giving their lives to Jesus. Fully aware of the cost of believing in Christ, they must have come to know a greater worth that is worth risking their own lives for, even in the face of discrimination and daily threats. These individuals live out the truth of knowing Jesus and what it means to be a follower of Christ.
On our mission trip, during the Easter period, we will look at what it means for christians in Pakistan that Jesus is alive. We will also explore with different organizations what we can do to support them as well.
